So, Mark was out of town from Thursday night – Sunday this past weekend. Geeks United for a weekend of gaming, goofing, Diet Dr. Pepper, and Mike-Sells potato chips. He had fun. Our weekend at home wasn’t too terrible, although the kids missed Mark bunches.
There’s nothing better than a 2 year old saying “Mommy go ‘way!” “Want Daddy!” “Where Daddy go?” accompanied by crying, all this on a loop repeating through the weekend. Toddlers don’t understand the concept of Daddy will be home on Sunday, just in case you were wondering about that.
On the plus side, Lauren was an angel most of the weekend. She was a big help in keeping Sam occupied and taking care of the pets. I actually managed to get some laundry done and a few chores too.
Related to the house and chores, our cleaning lady is ill. She left me a voice mail yesterday while I was in a meeting to let me know it actually is cancer and that she starts treatments next week. I’m sure it will be a while before she’s working again, if at all. I need to call her to check on her; she’s a nice lady. But I also need to get another cleaning service in here. It is kind of a mess. I may call about that today, since I’m home.
I canceled our lawn service with a local company, because our yard looked like crap even though they’d been coming out and spraying whatever noxious chemicals they use. No sense paying for that. We set up service with a national (regional? I don’t know) company that we had used in our previous house and did a great job – it’s a bit more expensive, though. They were supposed to come last Thursday, and didn’t show. Now there’s a guy with a truck out on our street. He’s sprayed the house 2 doors up from us, and our next door neighbor. I don’t know if he’s skipping our house, but I’m keeping an eye out so I can grab him (figuratively) if he starts to leave without spraying our yard too. The dog is going nuts because there’s someone outside. So that’s fun. UPDATE: Darn, missed him. I called, and they’ll come out to spray tomorrow. One hopes.
My birthday is next week. After that I can officially say I’m pushing 40, I suppose.
I’m home today because I’m having periods of dizziness and vertigo for no apparent reason. I’m not sick, haven’t been sick. I feel just fine, except that sometimes the room spins and I feel like I’m going to fall down. WebMD is not reassuring and not terribly helpful either. I actually would gladly go see the doctor about this, but I’m not about to drive today. Hopefully it will improve.
L has swim class tonight. I took her on Monday, and she is doing so great! I’m very proud of her. She’s swimming like a fish, and it’s hard to believe that she was terrified of the water (specifically getting it in her face) not too terribly long ago. There were several races between her and the other two kids in that class, and she won them all. She’s a very determined child. In a couple of the races, she was slightly behind. I could clearly see her pop her head out of the water, look over at the other kid, and turn on the jets. It looked like she just decided she was NOT going to come in second. She doesn’t really have any interest in swimming on a team, though, which is fine. We’ll be spending lots of time at the lake this summer and she’ll enjoy that a lot.

We’ve been using TruGreen out of Lexington last year and this year. We got them because those funny yellow flowers were totally possessing our yard and I feared that neighbors with pitchforks and torches would be arriving any night. We have zero yelloe flowers and our lawn is so thick and green we could feed a sizeable flock of goats! They aren’t cheap, but they seem quite reliable and effective.
Take care of yourself: eat, drink water, rest!!!
Yeah, TruGreen for us too. We used them when we lived in Lex, and they did a great job. They turned an apparent dandelion farm into a beautiful lawn just before we put our house on the market.
I’m sitting on the couch, drinking water now.
